THE MAKING OF AN INTERIOR LIFEDESIGNER

An international recognized award winning author, Dr. Deana Murphy is regarded as America’s 1st Interior LifeDesign Doctor. She has taken her career on a new path as a successful speaker, consultant and entrepreneur, addressing the similarities of designing tangible and intangible spaces.  From designing homes to designing lives, Dr. Deana is keen on helping women leaders who have trouble with inner conflicts and chaos and aren’t content with mediocrity in their lives.  THE EPIPHANY: Interior Design

Never in her wildest dreams did Dr. Deana imagine becoming a certified, sought-after interior designer showing America how to bring order to chaos on national television. After completing her tenure in Banking Management in New York, Dr. Deana relocated to eastern Pennsylvania with her husband and their tabby cat, Ms. Early. While she couldn’t locate specific decor items in her new location, she distinctly heard a voice say to her, “Why don’t you design your own?” Turning towards what she believed to be the voice, there was no one in sight. She then perceived it was God speaking to her. She couldn’t shake that experience.

Shortly thereafter she became obsessed with a desire to design interior spaces. To do this, Dr. Deana knew she had to return to college to earn an interior design degree. She remembers purchasing her first text book, Interiors, by Neilson and Taylor, and she was hooked. Before her commencement exercise years later, she met her first client with the challenge of renovating parts of a carriage house and transforming it into executive offices. This gave her the impetus to start her own interior design company—with a big dream in her heart and a small balance in her checking account—LivingDesigns was born.

ANOTHER EPIPHANY: Interior Lives

Well over a decade later, Dr. Deana experienced another epiphany. Working in the homes of her clients gave her many opportunities to help in other ways. She would offer her recommendations and strategies on how to shape their perspectives to help with experiencing more control and order in their lives. And then it happened. Seeing there was a striking parallel of home design to interior lifedesign, Dr. Deana understood her obligation to create a new paradigm for how she approached women to renovate and design their lives. She began to equip women to discover the character strengths, perfect their purpose, recognize and maximize potential, and lead a rewarding life. Dr. Deana remembers one client telling her that there’s nothing about her life and home that she didn’t love. Now LivingDesigns’ rebranding is  LivingDesigns360 with a heavy emphasis on interior lifedesign.

HER STORY: Motivation

Though she would face many challenges and hardships, Dr. Deana’s persistence kept her focused. She had to motivate herself with biblical teachings or else she would have given up and succumbed to hopelessness. She remembers a client whose check bounced and refused to pay and then threatened with a lawsuit! She remembers traveling four hours to meet with clients with hardly enough gas to get home hoping to get the contract, and didn’t. She remembers almost losing her home when both she and her husband were broke and broken. She also remembers the abuse in an earlier marriage, the betrayal of those she called her friends and the rejection by her leaders, yet she had to forgive. She remembers using her talents and skills to help others who didn’t help her when in need. Still with low esteem, self-doubt, loss of true identity and being torn, she held on to her God and her dream.

In addition to her interior architecture and design degree, she holds a business degree in Economics and a Doctorate in Theology from Chesapeake Bible College and Seminary, a fully accredited and affiliated University with the Oxford University Educational Network.
